Press Release Fleurbaix
20th September 2009
With spring starting to make its presence felt in the Boland and lovely summer evenings just around the corner Fleurbaix Conference Centre And Art Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of a fresh, new and interesting exhibition by Cape Town artist Greg Shribe.
"A Personal Journey' reflects both Gregs passion for the Southern African bush and the interesting personal and emotional discoveries he has made .
Until being diagnosed as bi-polar Greg spent his life working as a licensed river guide on the upper reaches of the Zambezi, Livingston Island at the Victoria Falls, Mala Mala, The Sabi Sands Reserve and The Lower Zambezi National Park.
Living and working under the influence of the African outdoors, Greg felt the need to express himself as a writer. This led to a cathartic release which was the onset of a bipolar episode. After being diagnosed as bipolar Greg faced the harsh reality of his illness and a solitary future by first exploring the spiritual nature of life in a novel (unpublished) and then through painting.
Moving to Cape Town four years ago . Greg's canvasses show a fascinating journey influenced by his love of nature and his desire to speak in a universal language while at the same time exploring his own creativity and emotional depths. Although his paintings are sought after and hang all over South Africa this will be Greg's first solo exhibition.
Alongside 'A Personal Journey' Fleurbaix is proud to be will be presenting 'Albie & Jacky' - a bi-lingual, musical and literary journey through South Africa.
This unique performance offers a nostalgic, funny and memorable trip through South Africa featuring the music and poetry of some of South Africa's best loved poets and composers. From "My Hart Verlang na die Boland" to Some of Albie Louws own compositions the music is complimented with the poetry of amongst others N.P. Van Wyk Louw and Achmat Dangoor.
The performance at Fleurbaix Conference Centre and Art Gallery , Van Rheede Road, De Boord Stellenbosch is at 17h00 on the 20th September .
Booking is through Fleaubaix on 0218828277. R50.00 includes entrance to the Fleurbaix estate, the show, art exhibition, wine and snacks.
